I needed ice cubes that fit into my water bottle. This flexible ice tray makes ice in the shape of a tube that is not too thick or too long. The only initial con I experienced was that, after filling the tray with water, the flexibility of it made getting the tray into the freezer without spilling the water a bit of a challenge. However, I promptly resolved that problem when I put the tray in the freezer first, THEN filled it with water. Very easy and simple to do. Also important is that the tubes of ice are extremely easy to remove from the tray. Highly recommend.

OIL AND WATER,,,, TEST DAYS AND UNPREPARED STUDENTS..... QUICKSAND AND INEXPERIENCED CAMPERS.,,, GOING TO LAS VEGAS AND PLANNING TO WIN A MILLION DOLLARS WHEN YOU HAVE JUST $300 TO PLAY THE SLOT MACHINES WITH. Some things just DON'T go together! They are disasters in the making.
Sadly, I must add "silicone and ice-cube trays" to this list. I know wheref I speak. I actually BOUGHT these ice-cube trays...and found them to be one of the most disappointing purchases I have ever made!
The reasons I bought them were these: 1) I needed some ice-cube trays.
2) I have been looking high and low for ice-cube trays that make "cubes" in long TUBE form, (like my beloved "Polar Bear Ice Cube Tray" (just one...I've lost the other.) It is of hard blue plastic, and produces 9 long "ice-icles", which go all the way INTO your drink, cooling it off faster. (I also tried the 2-part, "ice-tube" trays. They spill a bit...so I wouldn't recommend them. BUT I sure recommend them more tnan ANY ice-cube trays made of silicone!)
Anyway, though I had never bought anything made from silicone, I had heard it praised again and again, in the late, and greatly missed "Betty Crocker Coupon Catalogue". So -- even though these ice-cube trays were a bright orange, (the colour of modern prison suits), I told myself that this is also the colour of the rising sun. Silicone was a new and exciting material to me...and the ice-cubes would be in the exact shape I wanted! So -- I bought them!
I did not then know that silicone ice-cube trays, when filled with water or any other liquid, have a tendencey to "droop" in the middle. It's as if the material had a mind of its own...and its "dream" (of becoming a hammock!!), is 'brought to life', when it is filled with water.
As a result, the water inside the newly-filled silicone ice-cube trays, WILL NOT STAY INSIDE THE NEWLY-FILLED ICE CUBE TRAYS! Carrying the filled ice-cube trays to your freezer (successfully), requires nothing
less than the balancing ability of a member of "The Flying Wallendas
(!) If your balance is not that good, you'll soon have water all over yur floor! And, if you've any left, by the time you reach the freeezer--if there isn't a TOTALLY FLAT SURFACE TO LAY THEM ON, IN THE FREEZER, you will get the remaining water, (at least 85% of it), all over your freezer, as well!
Regrettably, (and I do MEAN regrettably...because I was SO looking forward to lovely, l-o-n-g ice cubes again!), I must say that the only possibe "use" I can think of, for silicone ice cube trays -- of this, or or any other variety -- is for a "novelty gift". You know....the type of "present" you may wish to give, (anonomously, of course), to a boss who has unjustly fired you, or a boyfriend or girlfriend who has not only left you, but done so in a way that was humiliating, or nasty to you. I F , that is, you're into this sort of thing.
Silicone SHOULD be used to LINE cooking utensils...as it already has been, by some ingenuis manufacturers. A cooking utensil, (pot or pan), will give the silicone a nice, FIRM surface, so it won't start bending in the middle. Also, silicone has, so far, been seen as a very safe, non-stick surface, (replacing teflon, which all-too-often flakes off).
I'm sure that silicone has many other good industrial -- and even household uses, as well. But -- for ice-cube trays -- I cannot think of a WORSE material!
These ice-cube trays are sold by GET ORGANIZED -- a company which has many other quite wonderful and useful things to sell. I don't blame them for selling these ice-cube trays. They were hoodwinked by those who make them, (or maybe who made them, and just didn't test them enough), too!
If YOU need ice-cube trays, my suggestion would be to buy hard plastic ones....or even the old-fashioned kind, made of aluminum. Life is aggravating enough, with inflation, taxes, greedy politicians, and
"star", (and other), role models who disappoint us. Silicone, (silly cone?) ice-cube trays are something which, I believe, give extra aggravation to daily life...something no-one wants, or needs!
